Polished Concrete: A Stunning & Durable Flooring Solution for Fayetteville NC

Transform your space with the sleek, modern elegance of polished concrete flooring.  Industrial Floor Masters specializes in creating beautiful and long-lasting polished concrete surfaces for residential, commercial, and industrial spaces in Fayetteville NC and the surrounding areas.  Discover the advantages of this versatile and increasingly popular flooring choice.

What is Polished Concrete?

Polished concrete is more than just a smooth surface. It's a sophisticated flooring system that involves mechanically grinding and polishing concrete surfaces to achieve a desired level of sheen, from a satin finish to a high-gloss mirror-like appearance.  This process not only enhances the concrete's natural beauty but also strengthens it, creating a highly durable and low-maintenance floor.

The Benefits of Polished Concrete:

  •   Durability and Longevity: Polished concrete is incredibly resistant to abrasion, impact, and stains, making it ideal for high-traffic areas.  It's a long-term flooring solution that will withstand the test of time.
  • Low Maintenance:  Say goodbye to waxing and stripping! Polished concrete requires minimal upkeep, saving you time and money.  Regular sweeping and occasional mopping are typically all that's needed.
  • Cost-Effective: While the initial investment might be slightly higher than some traditional flooring options, the long-term cost-effectiveness of polished concrete shines through.  Its durability and low maintenance translate to significant savings over its lifespan.
  • Aesthetically Pleasing: Polished concrete offers a clean, contemporary look that complements any design style.  It can be customized with various aggregates, dyes, and stains to create unique and visually stunning surfaces.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Polished concrete is a sustainable flooring option that utilizes existing concrete slabs, reducing the need for new materials.  Its high reflectivity also reduces the need for artificial lighting, saving energy.
  • Improved Indoor Air Quality: Polished concrete doesn't harbor dust mites, allergens, or mold, contributing to healthier indoor air quality.
  • Versatile Applications: From residential living rooms and kitchens to commercial showrooms and warehouses, polished concrete is a versatile flooring solution suitable for a wide range of applications.

Gloss Level

Polished concrete floors offer varying levels of sheen, from a matte finish to a mirror-like shine, depending on the diamond grit used. Here's a breakdown of the four levels of polish and their corresponding sheen:

  • Level 1: Flat (Ground) (0-9% Image Clarity): Achieved by stopping below the 100-grit resin bond. The floor has a hazy appearance with minimal reflection.
  • Level 2: Satin (Honed) (10-39% Image Clarity): Achieved by stopping at the 400-grit resin bond.  A low-sheen, matte finish with slight overhead reflection visible from about 100 feet.
  • Level 3: Polished (40-69% Image Clarity): Achieved by going up to 800-grit or higher.  A much higher sheen with good light reflectivity.  Clear reflection of side and overhead lighting visible from 30 to 50 feet.
  • Level 4: Highly Polished (70-100% Image Clarity): Achieved by going up to 3,000-grit or burnishing.  A high degree of shine with clear reflections visible directly overhead. The floor appears wet from various angles.

Coloring

There are several ways to color concrete, each offering unique characteristics and aesthetic results. Here are six common methods:

  • Integral Coloring: Pigment is mixed into the concrete at the time of pouring, creating a uniform color throughout. This method is considered environmentally friendly.  A variation involves seeding a cement/pigment mixture into the top layer during power trowel finishing.
  • Penetrating Water-Based Dyes: Applied during the polishing process, these dyes penetrate the concrete surface and offer a vibrant, translucent color.  Considered environmentally friendly.
  • Penetrating Solvent-Based Dyes: Also applied during polishing, these dyes offer intense color saturation but are not considered environmentally friendly.
  • Penetrating Acid Stains: These stains react with the concrete to create unique, mottled, and variegated color effects.  Not considered environmentally friendly.
  • Colored Penetrating Surface Sealers: These sealers not only add color but also form a protective film on the surface. This results in a more solid, opaque color and is considered environmentally friendly.

We offer a wide range of colors from leading manufacturers like Ameripolish, and custom colors are available upon request. Contact us to discuss the best coloring option for your project
